Journalism Internship details

Today’s technology has made journalism more accessible than ever. While your parents once had to wait for the morning paper to get their news, you can now get caught up with just a few taps on your phone. What hasn’t changed, however, is good reporting and writing. Become a Journalism Intern and cover the Summit beat with in-depth reporting before, during and after the conference. Not only will you have the chance to gain real-life writing and editing experience, your articles will be published in local media outlets, and in some cases national media outlets, as well.

Responsibilities

  • Attend two journalism tutorials via Google Hangout in late January
  • Complete two pre-Summit articles, due in late January and late February
  • Complete at least two long articles or four short posts during tour of China
  • Complete at least one long article or two short posts during conference
  • Complete at least one long article post-Summit

Professional development opportunities

  • Gain international reporting experience
  • Practice real-time, deadline-driven writing skills
  • Write about high-profile public figures like former U.S. Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman, Jr., and NPR personalities Adam Davidson and Alex Blumberg
  • Publish articles under your own byline in local media outlets, and in some cases national media outlets, arranged by EF
  • Add tangible journalism experience to your college application and resume
  • Additional one-on-one support from EF mentors

Time commitment
This is an incredible opportunity to gain approximately 15+ hours of real-life work experience, hands-on mentorship and clips for your portfolio. Each student will write 4-5 articles, with the time commitment including:

  • 3 hours of pre-tour mentorship tutorials with reporters
  • 5 hours of pre-tour reporting and writing
  • Reporting and writing on a variety of subjects, both on tour and at the conference. This will likely equate to approximately 5 hours of work at the Summit.
  • 2 hours of post-Summit reporting and writing
